Rodolfo Martínez was born in Candás, Asturias, Spain, in 1965. He is one of the most prolific and award-winning science fiction writers in Spain. He writes with a dynamic style that often fuses several genres.
Outstanding works in his bibliography include the cyberpunk novels _La sonrisa del gato_ (now available in English as _Cat’s Whirld_) in 1995 and _El sueño del rey rojo_ (_The Red King’s Dream)_ in 2004 or the urban fantasy _Los sicarios del cielo_ (_Heaven’s Hitmen_) in 2005.
He has written several fantasy pastiches inspired by Sherlock Holmes, and an action series under the overarching title _El adepto de la reina_ (available in English as _The Queen’s Adept_) in 2009, featuring a kind of James Bond in an alternative universe where special rules of physics operate.
In 2020 he began the publication of _El hueco al final del mundo_ (_The Hollow at the End of the World_) his most ambition novel, an SF epic of more than 400,000 words, published in four annual volumes.
All his short stories have been collected in _Disfraces parecidos a mi piel_ (_Costumes that look like my skin_) and his poetry in _Frontera de la piel_ (_The Border of my skin_).
Martínez is also head of the independent publishing house Spórtula.
_La sabiduría de los muertos_ (_The Wisdom of the Dead),_ the first of his Holmes pastiches, is his best-known international novel, and has been translated into French, Portuguese (both in Portugal and Brazil), Turkish, and Polish.
He has translated into Spanish _The Time Machine_ by H.G. Wells, _The Sign of Four_ by Arthur Conan Doyle and the complete Robert E. Howard Conan stories, among other works.
He lives in Gijón with Felicidad Martínez. They both share the home with Rangiku and Ichigo, two female cats.
